Anders Zorn Exhibition and Sale
Ernest S. Kramer Fine Arts & Prints, in collaboration with The Old Print Shop, is featuring an exhibition and sale of the etchings of Anders Zorn, Sweden’s premier artist. Zorn excelled as a printmaker and is on par with America’s John Singer Sargent.
Anders Zorn who is internationally known as an etcher, painter and sculptor, was born in Mora on February 18, 1860. His talent in drawing was recognized early and at the age of fifteen was sent to the Royal Academy of Art in Stockholm. Zorn gained recognition as a painter especially in watercolor where he earned commissions in Stockholm while studying at the Royal Academy.
His first etchings date from 1882 when he traveled to London and visited Axel Herman Haig, a fellow Swedish artist who was living in England. Haig was older and was an established etcher of architectural images. Zorn’s first etchings are portraits of Axel Haig. Once he discovered the medium he continued to work with etching the remainder of his life.
The exhibition will hang in the second floor gallery at the Old Print Shop, 150 Lexington Avenue, New York City, runs through April 26th. The hours are Tuesday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. Saturday 9 AM to 4 PM Approximately 40 images are on display, including some of Zorn’s most important works.
